Broadway Tower
All my happiness is scone…
Today's foray took me to Broadway Tower, which may seem folly, but believe me, there was nothing foolish about this cream tea.
After an audio tour inside and atop of the tower and a walk around the grounds, having skipped breakfast it was time for a spot of lunch. The cafe seemed clean and modern with indoor and plenty of outdoor seating; with favourable weather conditions we opted to sit outside. There was a lot of cakes and savoury snacks available but I think you know me by now. No fruit scones were on offer so just a plain scone with clotted cream and jam and a pot of tea sold separately was ordered. Coming in at £9.20 seemed a little pricey but what followed was worth every penny. And pound for that matter.
The scones arrived within a minute or so, swiftly followed by the tea, all served in contemporary white porcelain. I especially liked the toilet bowl shaped milk jugs. The tea was quite delicious and tea cups a good size so as no need for continuous refilling and adjusting of milk/sugar/tea ratios. 2 large cups is plenty.
The scone was pretty much perfect, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside and warm throughout. Much like myself. But these were fresh off the rack, unlike myself, and were quickly consumed with a tasty strawberry jam and a nicely clotted, clotted cream. Occasionally you get what you pay for in this life, and this was one of those occasions. Utterly splendid.
As a perfect score will almost for sure never happen, and to leave a little wiggle room for future review scores, I give this cream tea a solid score of 4. Not much to complain about and would happily return again. Truly scrumptious.
