Sam's mum & dad's house
You've been scone too long…
Due to unforeseen circumstances today's cream tea took place after dinner, and due to bad weather, in the comfort of Sam's mum and dad's house in bonnie Scotland. It's National Cream Tea Day so no need for an excuse for a delicious treat.
I've tasted mum's home made scones before and they are the best, but as she wasn't feeling her best we decided on purchasing some plain and fruit scones from Aldi, which were lovingly prepared by warming through in the air fryer (those things can literally do anything) and whipping some double cream up (not in the air fryer, they can't literally do anything), then we sat down with a lush pot of tea.
The tea was brewed to perfection in a pre-warmed pot and served in beautiful little tea mugs. The cutlery was of a basic nature but who's quibbling, not me. A drop of Scottish cow juice and we were ready to go.
You may have noticed that I like to put the cream on first. I don't care if you're from Cornwall, Devon or the outer bloody Hebrides, I'll do what I want. Anyone that says that it's wrong is from Devon, or Cornwall, or a mentalist. More than likely 2 out of 3. Mum puts her milk in before the tea. I put the milk in after. And that's all fine with me. Who ruddy cares.
A delicious raspberry and blackcurrant jam were on offer. Both scones were nice, the sultanas were juicy if not in abundance, but I prefer quality over quantity any day. They weren't the crispest or moistest I've ever tasted but great for shop bought. The preserves were from France I believe, but packaged for Aldi, and quite superb. Lidl by Lidl, the scones were consumed and so was I by the thoughts of a lie down.
Overall I give this cream tea a solid 3.8. Would definitely return just to try mumma's home made scones and see if we can break that magical 4 score achieved last time at Broadway. HAPPY NATIONAL CREAM TEA DAY!!
